Clinical research

Modern medical care is based on evidence from research, leading to the development of new and improved patient treatments.  Heart of Bath patients may wish to take the opportunity, if eligible, to participate in this research, potentially contributing to the improvement of care.

Please call or email us if you want to know more about research and clinical trials we are involved in. Look out for posters in the surgeries, communications from the Heart of Bath team or just check on this website.

How to take part

You may be invited by letter, email, phone call or text if you meet the criteria for a study. Look out for posters in the waiting room or call the surgery to volunteer, we would love to hear from you.

Do I have to take part?

No, it is completely voluntary and you can withdraw at any time. Withdrawing from a study will not affect the quality of care you will receive.

Is our research safe and ethical?

All our research studies have been approved by the appropriate authorities and our research team are fully qualified and trained.

Some of our studies only involve gathering information. However if a medicinal product is offered, the potential risks and benefits will be explained by our doctors and nurses verbally and in writing so that patients have plenty of time to decide if they want to take part.

Thank you

We would like to thank the hundreds of patients who have volunteered their time and commitment to take part in research over the years.  Their contribution has potential to help make the care we provide even better for the future.
